How to Use the PlayerFirst Map Overlay Feature
How to Create Map Overlay Artwork:
Capture a screenshot of the map you want to create from Google Maps.
Open Adobe Illustrator and create a new document.
Drag and drop the screenshot into the Illustrator document.
Maintain the original aspect ratio of the screenshot by holding the Shift key while resizing.
Adjust the artboard size to match the dimensions of the placed screenshot.
Trace the key areas of the map you want to use as your overlay.
Save your work in Illustrator.
Open Adobe Photoshop.
Drag and drop the Illustrator file into Photoshop.
In Photoshop, set the image resolution to 3000 Pixels/Inch.
Change the dimensions of the image to a minimum of 1200 pixels on the shortest side. Go to "Image" > "Image Size" and adjust the width or height accordingly. Ensure that the "Constrain Proportions" box is checked to maintain the aspect ratio:
In the "Crop Tool" dropdown, select "Crop Box" to crop the image to the same dimensions/ratio as the map screenshot.
Save the map as a PNG.
How to Obtain Coordinates & Screenshot from Google Maps:
Visit www.googlemaps.com.
Click on "Saved" in the top left corner.
Select "Maps" from the dropdown menu.
Click on "Open My Maps" to create a new map.
Use the zoom function to get a close-up view of the desired area.
Drop a pin at the top-left corner of the area and label it as "Top Left."
Drop another pin at the bottom-right corner and label it as "Bottom Right."
Take a screenshot that includes both pins for accuracy.
Note that steps 7 & 8 are where our coordinates come from when entering into PF.
How to Get More Accurate Coordinates:
Install Google Earth Pro and set the event location.
Add the image overlay by tapping "Add Image" and selecting the image.
Position the image to align with map features:
Get location info by right-clicking the added image in the "Places" section and choose "Get Info."
Retrieve coordinates by tapping "Location" and "Convert to Latitude-Longitude (Quad)."
Ensure coordinates are in decimal format (xx.xxxxxx) through Google Earth Pro preferences:
Tap the "Google Earth Pro" option in the top toolbar.
Go to "Preferences."
Change "Show Lat/Long" to "Decimal Degrees."
Identify corner coordinates: The 1st corner = Bottom right in PlayerFirst, and the 3rd corner is the top left:
Copy and paste the coordinates into PlayerFirst.
How to Import Coordinates and Artwork into PlayerFirst:
In PlayerFirst, go to Communications/Events App.
Select the League & Tournament for the artwork upload.
Visit the “Maps” tab and select or create a new map.
Under “Map Display,” choose the “Google Maps Overlay” Map Type.
Upload your PNG artwork.
Enter the coordinates for Top Left Latitude, Top Left Longitude, Bottom Right Latitude, and Bottom Right Longitude.
